Join us for an immersive 3-day masterclass led by acclaimed Nigerian muralist and contemporary artist, Mr. Waduud. This intensive program offers participants a unique opportunity to delve into the art of mural creation, guided by Mr. Waduud’s extensive experience in large-scale public artworks. Participants will explore the entire mural-making process—from conceptualization and design to material selection and execution—culminating in the creation of a collaborative mural at the academy.
Course Goals
- Master Mural Techniques: Participants will learn the fundamentals of mural painting, including surface preparation, scaling designs, and the application of various painting techniques suitable for large surfaces.
- Develop Design Skills: Attendees will enhance their ability to create compelling and cohesive mural designs that effectively communicate intended messages and resonate with diverse audiences.
- Understand Material Selection: The course will cover the selection of appropriate materials—such as paints, brushes, and protective coatings—ensuring durability and visual impact of murals in different environments.
- Explore Surface Adaptation: Participants will gain insights into adapting designs to various surfaces, addressing challenges posed by different textures, shapes, and locations.
- Learn Finishing Techniques: The masterclass will include instruction on finishing touches and protective measures to preserve the integrity and longevity of mural artworks.
Requirements
- Experience Level: This masterclass is designed for artists aged 15 and above, with a foundational understanding of painting techniques and a keen interest in expanding their practice to include mural art.
- Materials: While basic materials will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their preferred painting tools and sketchbooks for design development.
- Attire: Attendees should wear comfortable clothing suitable for painting activities, as the process can be physically demanding and involve working with various materials. Aprons will be provided.

- Friday: 10am – 5pm (Lunch break inclusive)
- Saturday: 10am – 5pm (Lunch break inclusive)
