Join us for an immersive weekend masterclass led by the esteemed Nigerian contemporary artist, Duke Asidere. This intensive program offers participants a unique opportunity to delve into advanced painting techniques, guided by Asidere’s extensive expertise and innovative approach. Over two days, attendees will engage in practical sessions that emphasize expressive brushwork, dynamic composition, and the exploration of personal artistic narratives.

Course Goals

  •  Enhance Technical Proficiency: Participants will refine their painting skills, focusing on the use of various media including oils and acrylics
  • Develop Personal Expression: Guided by Asidere, attendees will explore methods to infuse their work with individual perspectives, drawing inspiration from contemporary African politics, social dynamics, and cultural themes.
  • Expand Artistic Perspectives: Through interactive discussions and critiques, participants will gain insights into integrating visual metaphors and abstract qualities into their art, reflecting the complexities of modern life.

Requirements

  • Experience Level: This masterclass is designed for budding and advanced artists aged 16 and above, who possess a passion or solid foundation in painting and seek to further their artistic development.
  • Materials: Participants are encouraged to bring their preferred painting supplies, including brushes, palettes, and chosen media (oil, acrylics). A limited selection of materials will be available for purchase at the academy.
  • Attire: Attendees should wear appropriate clothing suitable for a studio environment, as art-making can be a messy process. We will also provide aprons for use.

Time

  • Saturday: 10am – 5pm (Lunch break inclusive)
  • Sunday: 12pm – 6pm (Lunch break inclusive)
