Join us for an immersive 3-day masterclass led by acclaimed Nigerian hyperrealist painter, Silas Onoja. This intensive program offers participants a unique opportunity to delve into the techniques and philosophies behind hyperrealistic painting. Onoja, known for his lifelike depictions that often explore themes of freedom and human resilience, will guide attendees through his creative process, from conceptualization to execution. The masterclass will include hands-on painting sessions, interactive discussions, and personalized critiques, providing a comprehensive learning experience for artists seeking to enhance their skills in hyperrealism.

Course Goals

  •  Master Hyperrealistic Techniques: Participants will learn to create paintings with photographic precision, focusing on capturing intricate details, textures, and the play of light and shadow.
  • Explore Thematic Expression: Attendees will delve into incorporating profound themes into their artwork, drawing inspiration from Onoja’s exploration of freedom, mental bondage, and the human condition.
  • Develop a Personal Artistic Voice: Through guided exercises and individual feedback, participants will be encouraged to infuse their work with personal narratives and unique perspectives, enhancing their artistic identity.

Requirements

  • Experience Level: This masterclass is designed for intermediate to advanced artists aged 16 and above, with a foundational understanding of painting techniques and a desire to specialize in hyperrealism.
  • Materials: Participants are required to bring their preferred painting supplies, including:
    • Oil paints and mediums
    • A selection of brushes suitable for fine detailing
    • High-quality canvas or painting panels
    • Palette and palette knives.
Note: A limited selection of materials will be available for purchase at the academy.
  • Attire: Attendees should wear comfortable clothing suitable for a studio environment, as art-making can be a messy process. Aprons will also be provided

  • Friday: 10am – 5pm (Lunch break inclusive)
  • Saturday: 10am – 5pm (Lunch break inclusive)
  • Sunday: 12pm – 6pm (Lunch break inclusive)
